The July 2009 visit to Brazil was a bargain for the dollar.
The Brazilian Real was about 2 to $1. That is each Real was worth about 50 cents US. So... The prices on the menu were about half. That is a 600 ML of beer was R$ 3.00 or about $1.50 US
The best way to figure the US dollar value at the time is to divide the menu prices by 2.
