October 15th Beach Day 2001, at Riis Park in Queens New York - Water is warm enough to swim.  And swim I did

Swimming in October in New York City's Atlantic Ocean shore

The Atlantic Ocean temperature was in the upper sixties and still warm enough for swimming.  The lifeguards were gone and only three or four sun worshippers on 5 miles of beach. 

The beach can be full of tens of thousands sunbathers during hot New York days in July and August.  Now, the lifeguards were gone and only three or four sun worshippers on 5 miles of beach.
