The Observation Deck at the Empire State Building At Sunset on a Friday Evening in August 2015 with Sherri, Kelsey and Dennis

Taking in all of New York city and New Jersey from the heights of this skyscraper icon.  The entire New York skyline will be in your gaze

The observation was un-enjoyably crowed but everyone needs to see New York from this landmark

We used The New York Pass to get our tickets at this historic building

We left Coney Island a little after 6 pm. It took us about an hour by subway to get to the entrance of the Empire State.  The lines were not long but the wait time, going through airport type security and winding past displays to the elevators to the 86th floor deck took an additional hour.  The elevators are in two stages:  The first ones took us to the 80th floor.  The second stage elevator bank has fewer cars so the wait was longer.  Guards offered the option to walk up the six flights to the 86th floor outdoors observation deck

Even though the lines were not long, it seemed everyone stayed on the observation deck for a long time.  It was hard to navigate around the building to see all of the city.  We only stayed for a little over 30 minutes because of the crowds

Ticket to the Empire State ObservatoryThe view from the 102 floor observation deck costs an additional $20.  We've been there before it was and add-on fee and don't think it is worth it.  The view is more restricted, it holds very few people, and it is closed in behind windows

The trip down was fast, only a brief wait at the down elevator

Helton did not have The New York pass so he declined to go up with us.  He patiently waited on 34th street until we came out about and hour and a half later
